What is a PSA license?

A PSA license certifies that the holder meets specific industry standards.  It is mandatory for individuals working in various sectors of the private security industry.  The license ensures that individuals meet the necessary standards of competence, trustworthiness, and professionalism set by the PSA.

To obtain a PSA license, applicants must complete specific training courses, pass background checks, and meet other eligibility requirements.

Once granted, the license allows individuals to legally work in the private security industry in Ireland.

How do Security System Installers get a PSA license?

Installers of CCTV, Intruder Alarm, and Access Control Systems in Ireland must obtain a PSA license to operate legally. This process involves meeting specific requirements set by the Private Security Authority (PSA).

The PSA will review the application and, if approved, issue the license. The license is valid for a specific period and requires regular renewal to ensure continued compliance with PSA standards.

Here is quick overview of the license requirements:

  • Technical Standards - Installers need to comply with the relevant technical standards for each type of system. These standards ensure that the systems are installed and maintained to high quality and security standards.
  • Audit - Installers must undergo a rigorous auditing process conducted by a PSA-approved certification body. This audit assesses the installer's competence, procedures, quality management systems, and adherence to relevant standards. Once the installer successfully passes the audit, they can apply for a PSA license.
  • Vetting - Installers must have been vetted by An Garda Síochána and passed the PSA’s fit and proper assessment.
  • Tax Clearance - Hold a valid Tax Clearance Certificate
